Where modern art meets my daily life.

So, the title of this section is the name of the book I am currently reading.

Several people will say “simply reading a book on digital design isn’t going to make you a better graphic designer”, but I would have to disagree.

In a classroom, the professor teaches graphic design through assignments that teaches how to use the program, but to have a better understanding of how to create a successful design reading about it helps incredibly. I have learned so much just by reading the first couple of pages.

So I’m half way posting this link as a bookmark… But, this site is amazing for it being free. Much better than using google images to search for image files to use on my class projects.

November 3, 2011 is MSU’s semester drag show. I designed the Queen and King flier. I would have to say that Alliance is my worst clients ever. I’m hoping they get better next semester. These are not the completely finished design though. I plan on having some of my graphic friends help me on it. Tehehee

Please? For Christmas?

These vector images are amazing, and I’m sure the videos would make my graphic career so much more interesting. Just looking at this site makes me excited.

So I have decided that I will start collecting post cards to every exhibit that I go too. So far I have collected eight. Which isn’t a large number, but it takes the smaller numbers to make progress seem like a prize. I’m very excited to see what upcoming galleries will be on show at The Clara M Eagle Gallery.

Today’s BFA exhibition wasn’t what I was hoping for. I was impressed with a very large sculpture that read “TYPE”. The text was in black, and was hanging from the ceiling. The T and P was about a foot from the wall, while the Y and E was just a bit further from the T and P. Sounds very confusing. I will have to take pictures and post it soon. The other person’s exhibition wasn’t very interesting. It screamed commercialism which isn’t my favorite type of artwork. It had the overall theme but the pieces seemed rushed and blended together. The pieces were all done in silk screen.

Here is my main points of Critiquing artwork:

  • Fucking talk…
  • Don’t start off with “I really like it…”
  • No one cares if you sound stupid or not. Its your opinion to start off with so your a dumb-ass automatically anyways.
  • Yes we know, its your best friends artwork and you don’t want people to bash on it so you say something positive… don’t … because we’ll think your stupid, especially when no one was going to bash on it in the first place!
  • Think creative but don’t get ahead of yourself.
  • Don’t be crude. We are here to talk about the piece not om-nom it because you have mixed feelings towards the piece.
  • If you know your going to be a bitch that day, just shut up.
  • When critique that day is for a grade and you have said nothing, just take what someone said and rephrase it but add a few random things.
  • We are all mature and are all artists, so if you think it looks like a dick just say it… because we are all thinking it.
  • Its probably best not to talk about someone’s artwork that you worked next too or have close relations with… it just seems awkward and not very constructive.
  • For heavens sake, shut the fuck up if time is running out… the world isn’t going to end if you don’t get your opinion in.
  • Enjoy critiques because that is what will make you a better artist
  • Get your head out of your ass and take the damn criticism… if you are so good at art then how about we just give you the damn degree.
